Crap. It turns out that "mole people" is a reference to a sub-culture of homeless people who live in NYC subways.

So, my attempt at satire has backfired. Now, an angry race of homeless, underground-dwelling New Yorkers think that I'm some sort of pathological mole-a-phobe. Which I'm not. Really. Mole people are OK with me!
